My 'official' starting point.
I felt it'd be an appropriate place to start given its ironic name. Apparently some macho, ego-driven explorer couldn't navigate the entrance to the Columbia River here and named the place 'disappointment' simply due to his own failure - utterly ignoring the incredible beauty of the place. So it's a callout to appreciate the trip.
Had a fun journey here (cycled over the bridge from Astoria which was a bit hairy, but exciting). Got in a short surf session (on the surfmat), cooked tofu-don (which was quite tasty), and was happy my bivvy sac proved itself to be waterproof (had a bit of rain overnight).
